RETIRED NBN program

director Wayne Hampton is

selling his 10.11-hectare (25-acre)

Eagleton homestead of five years to

become more involved in the horse

racing industry.

Mr Hampton, who worked with

NBN from 1962 until his retirement

earlier this month, said he had

enjoyed the lifestyle of the property

- breeding a few horses, working on

the gardens and growing fruit trees.

'I've been involved with the

trotting industry for years but I'm

more involved in the breeding, in

the horse racing sense, in galloping,'

he said.

`My daughter rides dressage so

she gets the slow race horses and

makes them into dressage horses.

'I'm getting more involved in the

horse breeding and horseracing

game now that I've got more time.'

The property has several

paddocks divided by electric fences,

a foaling stable and a fowl pen with

a run.

From the tops of the hills there

are views towards Stockton and

Barrington Tops.

Along with an abundance of

flowers are fruit trees, ranging from

custard apples to mandarins, limes,

oranges, apricots, peaches and

nectarines.

The homestead has four

bedrooms in the main residence, the

main with a walk-in robe, ensuite

and direct access to a study.

Sliding glass doors from the study

open on to the bull-nose veranda

which surrounds the home.

Ceiling to floor windows in most

rooms provide wide views.

Adjacent to the home is a one-bedroom

guest quarters. It has an

ensuite with a spa bath, living area

with kitchenette, a leadlight feature

window and vaulted ceilings.

The room could easily

accommodate a full-size billiards

table.

Between the two residences is an

entertaining area and swimming

pool with landscaped gardens.

The property has five garages with

power and water, four carports and a

separate garage and storage. At 73

Winston Road, it is listed for $970,000

through Nancy Truman of Elders

Real Estate Lambton and will be

open for inspection from1pm-2pm

today.

Cultivated vineyard

NEWCASTLE businessman Robert

Fernance is selling his 16.26-hectare

(40-acre) Pokolbin weekender after

15 years of making improvements to

the property.

The three-bedroom homestead,

which was previously the home of

former world heavyweight boxer

Aussie Joe Bugner, now has one acre

of grapes under planting and a

6000-bottle cellar which Mr

Fernance says is dedication to one

of his rules in life, that 'you must

always drink good wine'.

Although the bottling is left to the

'experts', Mr Fernance said his

family had enjoyed many weekends

away at the property during the past

15 years.

'It was a small working vineyard

but it was also, more than anything

else, a recreational property that we

escaped to from the city,' hesaid. 'It

has a wonderful entertaining area

on it with its own open-fire, woodfired

barbecue and table-seating for

15 people where we enjoyed the

ambience of Pokolbin.

'We've put everything we could

possibly need on it to make it a very

easily-looked-after property.'

The property can be operated at

the push of a button, from irrigating

the lawns and the vineyard, to

turning on and off the lights

throughout the home.

The three-bedroom main

homestead is air-conditioned.

A separate guest residence with

private access is air-conditioned

and has a bedroom with ensuite, as

well as a lounge, dining, kitchen and

laundry.

There is also an auto-salt

chlorinated pool and spa

overlooking the valley, three-car

garaging and machinery storage.

The property has a 10-megalitre

irrigation licence, 20-megalitre dam

storage and three dams.

Located at 85 Marrowbone Road,

the home is joint listed for sale by

expressions of interest through

Master Real Estate and Sylvester

First National.
